Kennedy, 26, anchors a young Diamondbacks rotation, leading the club with 21 wins (tied for the NL lead), 2.88 E.R.A., and 198 strikeouts in 222 innings, the same number of frames as 24-year-old Daniel Hudson, who'll take the mound on Sunday afternoon. Right fielder Justin Upton (.289-31-88, .898 OPS) keys Arizona's offensive attack, though catcher Miguel Montero and second baseman Aaron Hill are red-hot entering October, both hitting over .300 in the month of September. Ten of Hill's 27 doubles on the season came last month, while Montero slugged four of his 18 home runs in September.
A pair of Most Valuable Player candidates sit in the middle of the Brewers' lineup. In his contract year, first baseman Prince Fielder hit .299 with and finished second in the National League with 38 home runs and 120 RBIs. Braun came up five points short in the NL batting crown, but hit 33 home runs and stole a career-high 33 bases.
The Brewers won four of the seven regular season meetings between the two teams, with each squad scoring 28 runs.
