With their backs against the wall Tuesday evening, the Diamondbacks outpitched and outhit the Brewers, winning their first game in the best-of-five NLDS matchup and earning the opportunity to tie the series Wednesday evening. Both teams are turning to southpaw pitchers in Game 4, with Randy Wolf getting the nod for Milwaukee and Joe Saunders for Arizona.
Wolf, 35, is the oldest member of Milwaukee's rotation, and all those years help give him perspective to bounce back from Tuesday's deflating 8-1 loss.
"The good thing about this team is we've always had short memories," said Wolf. "We've had bad games before and we get over it quickly."
Then again, it's not a surprise Wolf is confident: he's won seven of nine career starts at Chase Field, sporting a 3.43 ERA. Saunders, as it happens, has a 4.42 ERA in 15 home starts this year, compared to 3.14 in 18 on the road.
But if Saunders receives the kind of run support that Arizona gave Josh Collmenter in Game 3, those home/road splits won't be an issue. Rookie first basemen Paul Goldschmidt led Tuesday's attack, hitting a grand slam while driving in five runs.
