The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals are two of the three teams (the other being the Boston Red Sox) who have current managerial openings.
On Wednesday, the Red Sox interviewed Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin for their manager's job. Today, ESPN's Buster Olney reports that Mackanin is going to be piling up frequent-flyer miles this week:
Mackanin doesn't necessarily seem to fit the Cubs' bill -- he's 60 years old and it would seem that Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer are looking for someone younger.
Speaking of younger men, those of you who think Terry Francona might take a year off could be wrong:
It's conceivable that Francona, who worked for Epstein in Boston, could also interview in Chicago. It'll keep the airlines busy, if nothing else.
