Have the Orioles finally found their man? Dan Connolly in The Baltimore Sun:

Dan Duquette, who left Baltimore on Friday after a strong interview with Orioles officials concerning their open GM job, is returning this afternoon and is expected to meet with them again this evening, according to an industry source.

ESPN's Tim Kurkjian reported that the meeting is to finalize a contract.

An industry source said no offer has been extended to Duquette at this time, but that could change very soon.

I'm basically just reporting this news, such as it is. If Duquette's actually hired, we'll give some space to a career retrospective. But I do believe that Duquette might be highly motivated at this point, nearly 10 years after the Red Sox fired him. Duquette, I believe, has always felt slighted by history, considering that a roster he built won 93 games immediately after his departure, and one year later came within a pitch or two of reaching the World Series.

Would the Red Sox have won two World Series if John Henry hadn't fired Dan Duquette? That seems unlikely, from where I sit. But what got Duquette in trouble wasn't as much his baseball mind as his personality. And it's certainly possible that he has, in the last 10 years, expanded his baseball mind and worked some on his people skills.

I don't have any idea if Duquette or anyone else can succeed with Peter Angelos as his boss. But it would be a great story, and I find myself rooting for him.
