It was just earlier Monday that Texas Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux withdrew his name from consideration for manager of the Boston Red Sox. Maddux cited family reasons for not wanting to move from Texas to Massachusetts, but there could still be a move in his future. From Paul Sullivan:
Maddux to interview for Cubs job on Wednesday
Maddux is considered by some to be the favorite to take over as the next manager of the Chicago Cubs, and he's considered by others to be most likely to stay where he is. If nothing else, the fact that he's going to interview with Chicago shows that he hasn't ruled out a move entirely. Who knows - maybe he'd like to stay where he is, but he's open to the idea if the Cubs blow him away.
T.R. Sullivan reports that Maddux talked this matter over with his family Monday night, presumably before the Wednesday interview was finalized. That would imply that Maddux either has his family's blessing, or he is very publicly defying its wishes.
