Continuing our series of SB Nation awards, we announce the National League Cy Young winner this afternoon.
For the first time in SB Nation award balloting, we have co-winners with 149 points. During the late-season period when candidates for this award were being discussed, it appeared that both the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw and the Phillies' Roy Halladay had legitimate claims to it. Kershaw had one more first place vote (14) than Halladay (13).
Voting was for the top five; points awarded on a 7-4-3-2-1 basis. SB Nation's NL Cy Young ballot was cast by Jason Brannon. Here's who he voted for:
Halladay, Kershaw, Cliff Lee, Madison Bumgarner, Matt Cain
If Jason had placed Kershaw first, he would have won the award outright. So you can blame him, I guess. Or not. On the other hand, the voter who put Kershaw fifth also could have "cost" him the solo award. Congratulations to both Kershaw and Halladay.
Here is the complete ballot.
Thursday: the AL MVP.
