Sunday, by combining information put out by Ken Rosenthal and Joe Cowley, one could glean that the Rangers, Nationals and Marlins had all offered free agent Mark Buehrle three-year contracts. Monday, Rosenthal provides a little more:
Source: #Twins also on Buehrle, joining #Nationals, #Marlins, #Rangers. Offer not as strong. Others believed 3 yrs in $36-39M range.
Based on that report, the Rangers, Nationals and Marlins have all more or less offered Buehrle the same contract. There could be small differences, but what Buehrle is said to be seeking in addition to three years is a no-trade clause, and at last word, nobody's given that yet.
As for the Twins, by going after Buehrle but offering less than the others, they could be trying to play off Buehrle's familiarity and possible fondness for the AL Central. Or they could just be inept negotiators. It's possible that Terry Ryan is way worse at his job than he used to be.
I'm not sure where this goes from here. Maybe Buehrle ends up with a fourth year, but I could see Buehrle going to the first team that caves and gives him that NTC.
