Free agent first basemen are seemingly everywhere these days. Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder, the two biggest prizes, have been courted by known teams and mystery teams; West Coast teams, Midwestern teams and East Coast teams.

Not to be left out, the Arizona Diamondbacks signed a first baseman, tweets Jon Heyman:

The Diamondbacks must love this guy. He was originally drafted by the Arizona organization in 1999 and made his major league debut with them in 2001. With no place for him at the time, he was traded to the Brewers in a nine-player deal that included a minor leaguer named Noochie Varner.

No, I am not making that name up.

Arizona reacquired Overbay last August after the Pirates released him. He'll be 35 in January, and he has been about league average the last two years. But he hit pretty well (.286/.388/.452) in a small-sample-size 18 games for the D'backs, and they could use a backup for Paul Goldschmidt, and he's cheap at $1 million.

He may not be Pujols or Fielder, but at least someone signed a first baseman before the Winter Meetings ended.
