Logan Morrison Set To Return From Foot Injury

Good news for the surprising Florida Marlins, as their young first baseman has recovered from a sprained arch in his left foot and is ready to return to the lineup. From Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post:

The move isn’t official yet, but Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez said the team plans to activate Logan Morrison from the disabled list in time to join the Marlins in Washington on Friday.

The corresponding roster move has already been made, with the Marlins sending outfielder Bryan Petersen down to Triple-A. At the time of his injury, Morrison was among the league leaders in batting average (.327), on-base percentage (.424), and retweets (42,082). He is also one of the top left fielders in baseball -- top 30 at least, if you ask him.

Also of note: Morrison's cast sold for $1500, which will go to charity. Well, the money will go to charity, while the cast will go to a guy wearing teal who likes to own other people's casts.

Logan Morrison Injury: Cast Is Off, Marlins Are Optimistic

Good news for the Florida Marlins and left fielder Logan Morrison, who was placed on the disabled list with a sprained foot. From Clark Spencer of Miami Herald:

Logan Morrison optimistic he can come off DL when 15 days are up on May 5. Foot checked out pain-free when cast came off today.

Morrison was off to a fantastic start this season, pacing the Marlins with a .327/.424/.636 line with four home runs in 55 at-bats, but he left a start on April 19th with pain in his left foot. In his place, the Marlins have been starting Emilio Bonifacio and Scott Cousins in left field, so Florida is likely to be pretty eager to get him back in the lineup.

Though I'm sure that there are plenty of non-creepy reasons to want an old Logan Morrison cast, the only one I can think of is to be able to clone him after society collapses. But good luck and happy bidding!

Prospect Ozzie Martinez Called Up By Marlins

Logan Morrison's trip to the Disabled List opens up a roster spot, and the Marlins filled it Friday with infielder Ozzie Martinez, rated by Baseball America before this season as the Marlins' No. 5 prospect.

Martinez doesn't figure to play much, though. From the Palm Beach Post:

Ozzie, 22, will replace injured left-fielder Logan Morrison on the roster, signaling that Emilio Bonifacio could share playing time in left field with Scott Cousins until LoMo returns.

Ozzie would be the main back-up infielder, a role he excelled at for the Marlins last year when he filled in for shortstop Hanley Ramirez in September.

A shortstop by trade, Martinez is obviously blocked in Miami by Hanley Ramirez. There's been talk about grooming him as the Marlins' future second baseman, but this spring he's still been playing shortstop in Triple-A. There's also been talk about him as a super-utilityman capable of playing just about anywhere on the field.

Logan Morrison Injury Diagnosed As Sprained Ligament In Foot

Earlier on Thursday, Marlins outfielder Logan Morrison was spotted wearing a fresh cast on his left foot, and it appeared likely that he would land on the disabled list. Now it's a certainty, and I'll just let Morrison tell you why in his own words:

Breaking news: sprained ligament in my foot out 2 to 4 weeks. Suck on that. Told u fantasy people not to pick me up

A sprained foot ligament obviously isn't any kind of severe injury with a high risk of recurrence, and Morrison will be just fine when he's healed, but for now this throws a wrench into the Marlins' plans. Stupid MRI machines.

Morrison's best-case scenario is that the cast comes off on Monday, after which he can resume baseball activities. Until he's able to return to the Marlins, Scott Cousins and Emilio Bonifacio should benefit. Of course, what's good news for Scott Cousins and Emilio Bonifacio is usually bad news for whoever is giving them jobs. Morrison will be missed.

Logan Morrison Likely DL-Bound With Foot Injury

On Tuesday, Marlins outfielder Logan Morrison had to be pulled from a game with a strained muscle in the arch of his left foot. Initial reports were positive, but Morrison was wearing a protective boot after the game and sat out on Wednesday. He was then sent for an MRI, and while the Marlins have yet to make a statement, it would appear that Morrison is bound for the disabled list. From the Miami Herald:

Looks like Logan Morrison -- the Marlins' top hitter so far -- is headed to the disabled list. Just spotted him outside the clubhouse wearing a fresh, white hard cast on his left leg.

A reporter asked Morrison how long he thought he'd be out of action, and Morrison responded "about two weeks." Sounds right.

Through 15 games, Morrison owns a 1.061 OPS, by far the best among the team's starters. He's slugged half of the Marlins' eight home runs, and he's going to leave a void while he heals up. With luck, guys like Hanley Ramirez and Mike Stanton will step up in his absence.
