Jason Michaels Injury Puts Outfielder On Disabled List

Stay connected for news and updates

Bad news for all of you Jason Michaels owners in fantasy leagues across the country. After diving for a fly ball in Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Houston Astros have decided to put the reserve outfielder on the 15-day disabled list with a subluxation of his left shoulder, which is a partial or incomplete dislocation. Ouch.

To take Michaels' roster spot, the Astros have called up Brian Bogusevic, who was a former first-round pick as a pitcher before converting to the outfield in 2008. Bogusevic is a singles hitter with a good eye, though he doesn't hit for a lot of power -- his career line for the Astros' AAA affiliates is .272/.355/.388.

Michaels shares time on the bench with Jason Bourgeois behind a starting outfield of Carlos Lee, Michael Bourn, and Hunter Pence. The 35-year-old has had a surprisingly lengthy career, playing in 953 games for four different teams over the past 11 seasons. He was hitting .111/.200/.111 in 18 at-bats so far in 2011.
