Before the Rangers said much of anything on the matter, Darren O'Day wrote on his Facebook page that he was going on the disabled list with a torn labrum in his hip. Now, we have confirmation. Says Jon Morosi:
Rangers place Darren O'Day on 60-day DL for surgery to repair a partial tear of the labrum in his left hip.
Where O'Day wrote that he was hoping for a quick recovery and return to the mound, that's not going to be the case - the operation and subsequent rehab will keep him out for at least two months. It's a pretty big blow to a Rangers bullpen that's also currently operating without closer Neftali Feliz.
Minor league call-up Ryan Tucker will try to fill the void, but realistically, one can expect Ron Washington to lean heavily on Darren Oliver, Arthur Rhodes and Pedro Strop for the time being.
Though the team's in first place, this is an uneasy time to be a Rangers fan.
