Cardinals' Matt Holliday Might Return Quickly

Stay connected for news and updates

While initial reports suggested that Matt Holliday’s appendectomy might knock him out of action for at last three weeks, Fox Sports Midwest reports that Holliday might not even be placed on the Disabled List:

The Cardinals plan to wait until Monday or Tuesday before deciding whether or not to put Holliday on the disabled list. Some players have returned from similar injuries in 7-10 days while others have missed 3-4 weeks.

Doctors were able to remove the appendix before it ruptured, potentially minimizing the amount of time he will have to miss.

During Sunday night’s Giants-Dodgers game, ESPN’s Buster Olney reported the same thing after talking to St. Louis general manager John Mozeliak. Olney also pointed out that Andres Torres missed only 11 days after his appendectomy last season.

Obviously, in a highly competitive National League Central, the Cardinals would like to see Holliday back in the lineup as soon as medically possible.
