Pirates' Evan Meek Goes On DL With Shoulder Injury

Stay connected for news and updates

Here's a bit of non-surprising news that explains the Pittsburgh reliever's poor performance this season, via Karen Price:

The Pirates placed reliever Evan Meek on the 15-day disabled list today and recalled Daniel Moskos from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Meek is suffering from right shoulder tendinitis. The move is retroactive to April 27.

In 20 years, how many Pirates fans will remember that Evan Meek was the franchise's lone representative on the National League's 2010 All-Star team? After Meek's fine season, he was considered as a potential closer, but has struggled this season as Joel Hanrahan's setup man.

Moskos was the Pirates' first-round draft choice in 2007, and the fourth overall pick (instead of Matt Wieters, who the Orioles grabbed with the fifth pick). After struggling for two seasons as a starter in the minors, Moskos shifted to relief duties in 2010 and rediscovered himself. This season with triple-A Indianapolis, he's got a 1.42 ERA in eight appearances.
