Not only is Matt Holliday one of the better outfielders in baseball, but he has Wolverine-like healing abilities and an ability to play through some significant abdominal pain. From Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
Holliday cleared for baseball activities, to make 10-game W. Coast trip. Availability still vague. No DL planned.
After news broke of Holliday's appendicitis and subsequent surgery, most everyone assumed that he was going to have his miss a substantial portion of the 2011 season -- up to four weeks by some estimates. There is no exact timetable as to Holliday's return, but him avoiding the disabled list is a good sign that he hopes to be back within the next two weeks.
Last season, Giants outfielder Andres Torres missed close to two weeks after having his appendix removed, and the relatively quick recovery inspired Holliday to avoid the disabled list. Though it's doubtful Holliday will play this weekend against the Giants in San Francisco, he will travel with the team to Arizona and Los Angeles next week.
