It continues.
In a game witnessed by literally dozens of people, the Boston Red Sox again failed to put one in the win column, losing to the Cleveland Indians 8-4.
Things got off to a bad start almost immediately when Shin-Soo Choo ripped a two-run home run off Daisuke Matsuzaka in the bottom of the first. From there, the Red Sox rallied to tie it up in the top of the second, but the Indians took the lead back in the bottom half and never gave it up the rest of the way. Asdrubal Cabrera broke things open with a three-run homer in the sixth, and Matt LaPorta chipped in with a longball of his own in the eighth.
The Red Sox did get their first home run from Adrian Gonzalez, and they also got their first stolen base from Carl Crawford - who went 2-4 with a walk - but it wasn't enough to get them over the hump, as Matsuzaka struggled and the bullpen was ineffective.
The Red Sox have now fallen to 0-5, putting them in the same company with the Rays, which is encouraging, and the Astros, which is not. Rob Neyer took this opportunity to touch on what the lousy start means.
Boston will try again in Thursday's series finale, featuring Jon Lester and Fausto Carmona. Lester would really like to be less terrible than he was in the season opener, but then, the same goes for his opponent.
