Jose Mijares To The DL With An Elbow Injury

Previously an effective reliever, Twins lefty Jose Mijares got off to a fine start again in 2011, and on April 27 his ERA stood at 1.13. Since then, however, he's allowed nine runs in 4.1 innings, with five walks and one strikeout. He hit a low point on Saturday when he walked in a run in extra innings, and on Sunday, the Twins placed Mijares on the disabled list with a sore elbow.

Mijares is due to have an MRI, after which we'll all learn more, but it wouldn't be a surprise to find out that there's something wrong, as Mijares simply hasn't been himself for a few weeks.

The Twins also optioned struggling reliever Jim Hoey to AAA Rochester. To fill the two vacant bullpen spots, Phil Dumatrait and Anthony Swarzak have been recalled. The lefty Dumatrait has been effectively wild as a reliever with the Red Wings, while Swarzak is joining the Twins for the second time on the season. He has 25 strikeouts and seven walks over six starts in Rochester, and will likely serve as a long reliever.
