The Baltimore Orioles placed shortstop Cesar Izturis on the disabled list with an elbow injury on Wednesday, and now word is coming out about the severity of the injury. From Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun:
Cesar Izturis will have surgery to move the ulnar nerve in right elbow. He will likely be out between six to eight weeks.
After playing in 150 games last year as the Orioles' starting shortstop, Izturis had settled into more of a reserve role this year after the acquisition of J.J. Hardy. When Hardy went down with an injury, the Orioles gave most of the starts at short to Robert Andino, who rewarded them with an unexpected .390 on-base percentage.
The 31-year-old Izturis has played in 100 games in every season since 2002, though the streak is definitely in jeopardy with the latest injury.
