According to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed outfielder Marcus Thames on the disabled list with a strained right quad, activating Jay Gibbons from the disabled list to take his spot. Thames has struggled with the injury since the spring, and his production might have suffered, with the outfielder only producing a .176/.222/.412 line in limited at-bats off the bench.

Thames was supposed to be a part of a left-field platoon to start the season, sharing at-bats with Jay Gibbons and Tony Gwynn, Jr. The quad injury slowed Thames down, Gibbons went on the DL, and eventually the Dodgers began giving the bulk of the playing time to rookie Jerry Sands, who has struggled a little bit since his call-up.

This is the first DL stint for the 34-year-old Thames since he suffered an oblique injury last season with the New York Yankees.
