Kyle McClellan Activated From DL By Cardinals

Stay connected for news and updates

In his May 30 start against the Giants, Cardinals starter Kyle McClellan landed awkwardly coming off the mound and sustained a hip injury. He stayed in the game and initially suggested that he could avoid a trip to the disabled list, but then he landed on the disabled list anyway. But hey, all right, now things are all better!

The St. Louis Cardinals activated pitcher Kyle McClellan from the 15-day disabled list Wednesday.

To make room for McClellan the Cardinals designated utility-infielder Matt Carpenter to Triple-A Memphis.

McClellan missed the minimum amount of time, confirming that his injury wasn't really that bad. He returns to a 3.86 ERA, and will start against the Nationals on Wednesday.

Lance Lynn made a pair of starts in McClellan's stead, allowing six runs in 10-1/3 innings. As the Cardinals won one of those games, they survived McClellan's absence.

Matt Carpenter batted 19 times while with the team, collecting all of one hit, in his first game. In Memphis, the infielder will resume playing regularly.
