The Diamondbacks won on Wednesday night in walkoff fashion, coming from a 4-0 deficit to win 6-5 over the Marlins on a bloop single by Justin Upton. It was Arizona's 14th win in their last 16 games and in doing so, they maintained a half-game lead over the San Francisco Giants in the NL West.
How is Arizona doing this? They don't have a single .300 hitter in their lineup and other than Upton, no one on their team is having anything close to an outstanding hitting season. Two of their Opening Day starting rotation members, Armando Galarraga and Barry Enright, are now toiling in Triple-A, and a third, Joe Saunders, has an ERA approaching 5.
They've got good bullpen production -- far better than last year's NL-worst -- and Josh Collmenter has helped solidify their rotation with his unorthodox pitching motion (and 1.34 ERA and only four walks in 36.1 innings).
But can they keep this up all season and hold off the defending champion Giants?
