You might think, at first glance, that the San Francisco Giants are having fun with the status of their cross-bay rival’s pitcher, Brandon McCarthy, by reading this tweet:
Update: Oakland A’s pitcher Brandon McCarthy is scheduled to start tonight’s game against the Giants on a rehab assignment.
Teams are in the interleague portion of the schedule and, ha ha, maybe the Athletics are having some fun at the Giants’ expense?
Nope. Of course, that’s a tweet from the Giants’ Class A affiliate, the San Jose Giants, at the other end of the bay from the two major league teams. And McCarthy will be making a rehab start tonight for the Stockton Ports, the A’s affiliate in the California League, as he comes back from a shoulder problem first suffered last month that put him on the DL.
The fact that the A’s would probably be best served by moving to San Jose, and the fact that the Giants can block any such move because it’s their “territory” has nothing to do with that tweet. Nope. Nothing at all.
