Lonnie Chisenhall, Tribe's Top Prospect, Gets Call

Stay connected for news and updates

The reeling Indians are making a big move, bringing up one of their top prospects. From Jim Bowden:

Manny Acta just confirmed with me that Lonnie Chisenhall will start at 3B for the Indians tonight

A big reason for the Indians' early success was third baseman Jack Hannahan, who batted .273/.349/.481 in March and April, with 14 RBI. A big reason for the Indians' recent failure was third baseman Jack Hannahan, who's batted just .180 with six RBI in the 41 games since.

Is Chisenhall the answer, though? He was anointed the Indians' top prospect this spring, after more than holding his own in Class AA last season at the relatively tender age of 21.

This season he's 22, and holding his own with triple-A Columbus. However, his .265/.352/.427 line does not suggest that he's ready to hit like a star, or even much better than Hannahan's expected line.

Considering the Indians' struggles, it makes sense to try something like this. But unless Chisenhall does better than he's been doing, he's not going to help much this season.
