Sergio Mitre Traded Back To Yankees From Brewers

At the end of March, the New York Yankees traded Sergio Mitre to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for Chris Dickerson. A few days ago, though, Mitre was designated for assignment by the Brewers due to a roster crunch, and it turns out the Yankees wanted him back. Tom Haudricourt:

For the Brewers, it isn't much of a return, but for the Yankees, Mitre isn't much of a pitcher.

Mitre spent two seasons in New York as a swing man, posting a 5.03 ERA over 105-2/3 innings with a K/BB just over 2. With the Brewers this season, Mitre threw 33 innings over 22 games with a shiny 3.27 ERA, but behind that ERA were just 14 strikeouts to go with ten walks, so it's not like Mitre has been especially effective. Which, duh. If he had been especially effective, he wouldn't have been designated for assignment.

In New York, the 30-year-old righty is expected to pitch in middle relief. According to a quick Twitter search I just ran, Yankees fans are less than excited about the prospect, but then, if Mitre struggles, there's nothing to stop the Yankees from dumping him again. There's not a lot of risk.
