Jordan Schafer Injury: Braves Outfielder Has Sinus Fracture

Friday night, Braves outfielder Jordan Schafer bunted a ball off of his own face. Given that Schafer was attempting to bunt for a base hit, it wasn't quite what he was going for, and the footage was gruesome, even if the incident reads kind of funny in text.

Schafer came out of the game and was sent to a local hospital for examination. There he had x-rays and a CT scan taken, and via Mark Bowman, we get the results:

Braves announced Schafer has a small non-displaced sinus fracture. No DL move at this time.

Somewhat bad, but it could've been worse. The key is that last part - the Braves haven't decided if they're going to put Schafer on the DL. At the moment they're taking this day by day, as Joe Mather and Matt Young can handle the center field responsibilities for the time being and the Braves don't want to lose Schafer for two weeks if they don't have to.

Jordan Schafer Taken To Hospital After Bunting Ball Off Own Face

Braves center fielder Nate McLouth went on the disabled list on May 23, with youngster Jordan Schafer recalled to take his place. Schafer stayed down for some time before leaving the game, although he did walk off under his own power. He has since been taken to an area hospital for x-rays of his face. There's no word yet on how badly he's injured.

Schafer owns a .235 average on the year, with more walks than strikeouts. After he came out, Joe Mather moved to center from right and Eric Hinske came in. Mather isn't exactly the classic center fielder type, but then third-stringers usually aren't. Fredi Sanchez might start feeling a little desperate.
