From the Arizona Republic, a bit of week-old Mark Grace news:
Grace, 46, was stopped by Scottsdale police at 64th Street and Cochise Road shortly after 1 a.m. May 30, after he made a wide right turn and police observed him weaving within his lane, according to the report.
Police said Grace, who did not have his wallet or license with him at the time of the arrest, admitted to "having a few drinks."
Grace was arrested on suspicion of driving with a blood-alcohol of more than the legal limit of 0.08 percent and being DUI-impaired to the slightest degree, according to police reports.
The slightest degree. So at least he's got that going for him.
When Grace played for the Cubs, he was somewhat famous for his late-night adventures, but there are 37 bars within a Called Shot of Wrigley Field, so if Grace had a few too many he could always crash in the locker room and wake up ready for batting practice.
Phoenix? Forget about it. There are people in Scottsdale who drive themselves to the bathroom.
Which isn't to excuse Grace for whatever ill behavior in which he engaged, last weekend. Unlike Rex Hudler, though -- who, after all, did commit a Class Z felony in the eyes of Lady Justice -- Grace was just a boy being a boy, and will likely escape this situation with little more than a stern talking-to. And maybe a trail of white towels from Scottsdale to the Chase Field clubhouse ...
