MLB Trade Rumors: Jose Reyes Isn't Going Anywhere

The prize of the trading deadline was supposed to be New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes. He's performing at an MVP level, and he's a free agent playing for a team that gave most of their money to a Nigerian prince. When the prince escapes and is granted political asylum, the Mets will have hundreds of millions to invest in payroll. As is, though, there are questions regarding their ability (and desire) to sign Reyes to a long-term deal.

But Mets fans love Reyes, and they're fully expecting the two sides to work out a deal. So good news from Buster Olney:

The Mets are now 100 percent certain they will not trade Jose Reyes before the deadline, according to sources. He changed their minds.

It's rare to see "100 percent certain" in any of the trade-rumor tweets or articles, so this one stands out. It sounds like Reyes reached out to Mets management and somehow let them know he wasn't giving up on being a Met. Maybe he wants a Bobby Bonilla-type deal to keep him comfortable until 2039.

Whatever the case, Reyes is staying with the Mets, much to the delight of Mets fans, and much to the chagrin of rumor junkies the world over
