Braves Vs. Pirates: Jerry Meals Admits 19th Inning Call Might Have Been Wrong

Stay connected for news and updates

Jerry Meals is blowing up social media websites following the umpire's possibly blown call in Tuesday night's 19-inning game between the Atlanta Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates. Interestingly enough, even the home plate ump admits that he may have been wrong with his late-night decision.

Meals watched the replay of Julio Lugo supposedly tagging Michael McKenry's leg following the game, and after taking a bit of time to reflect on his decision, the umpire decided he was not completely sure that he had made the right call.

"I saw the tag, but he looked like he oléd him and I called him safe for that," Meals said. "I looked at the replays and it appeared he might have got him on the shin area. I'm guessing he might have got him, but when I was out there when it happened, I didn't see a tag.

"I just saw the glove sweep up. I didn't see the glove hit his leg."

Baseball Nation's Rob Neyer is one of the few saying that Meals may have been correct in calling McKenry out at home plate, and while no replays have actually shown that Meals' call was terribly wrong, this is one of the more controversial calls in recent memory regardless.
