Angels right-hander Ervin Santana, pitching against the Indians in Cleveland, has not allowed a hit through eight innings.
The Indians did score an unearned run in the first inning, thanks to an error and a wild pitch. But the Angels tied the game in the fifth, and took a 2-1 lead in the sixth.
That's where the score stands after eight innings. In the bottom of the eighth, Santana struck out the side -- getting Carlos Santana, Matt LaPorta and Jason Kipnis -- but did issue a walk to rookie Lonnie Chisenhall, the Indians' first of the game.
Relying largely on his mid-90s fastball and slider, Santana has struck out nine Indians through eight innings. He's thrown only 94 pitches, 68 of them strikes.
Santana's never come close a no-hitter in his career, with his best outings being three three-hitters, the last of them a year ago, in a game that saw him out-pitched by John Danks.
