Wednesday night, Brewers All-Star second baseman Rickie Weeks was removed from a game against the Cubs after injuring his ankle running out an infield single. Weeks went to the ground and then couldn't put any weight on his left foot as he came off the field. The early word was somewhat promising, as x-rays on Weeks' ankle were negative, meaning he didn't have any breaks. But still, from Tom Haudricourt:

Roenicke says Weeks will go on DL.

Why is Weeks going on the disabled list? Because, as Haudricourt notes in another tweet:

Weeks doesn't have any breaks, but the Brewers suspect that he may have sustained some tendon or ligament damage. That would only be revealed by an MRI, and not an x-ray. And that kind of damage can be a really big deal.

We don't know yet how long Weeks will be out, but we know he'll be out for at least the next 15 days. This only puts more pressure on general manager Doug Melvin to find an infield upgrade, which he was already seeking, given that his starting shortstop is Yuniesky Betancourt. The Brewers have been linked to Jamey Carroll for quite some time, but there are a lot of options out there, and a pretty considerable need.

What a time for Craig Counsell to be hitless in his last 38 at bats. Put another way, Counsell's last hit came on June 10.
