Rickie Weeks Injury: Brewers All-Star Hurts Ankle, Removed From Game

Stay connected for news and updates

Right in the middle of the race, the Milwaukee Brewers have been searching the market for an upgrade at shortstop. So the last thing they needed was for something to go wrong at second base. Unfortunately, during a game against the Cubs Wednesday night, something has gone wrong at second base, as All-Star Rickie Weeks injured his ankle.

Some animated footage:

Weeks was running out an infield single when he stepped on first base the wrong way. He tumbled to the ground in a heap and was unable to leave the field under his own power, as he couldn't put weight on his left foot. That's not necessarily disastrous but it's a bad sign, and we're awaiting word on his condition.

Weeks was replaced by Craig Counsell, who is bad. The Brewers' infield depth is miserable, and if Weeks and his .800+ OPS have to miss a significant amount of time, the team could be in trouble. Expect GM Doug Melvin to go through a lot of coffee in the coming days.
