Superstar shortstop Jose Reyes has been out of action since Saturday, due to a strained hamstring. He was thought to be day-to-day, but earlier on Thursday it was reported that a doctor recommended three weeks of rest. A three-week timetable is very much not a day-to-day matter.

The Mets didn't confirm that report, but what they have done is place Reyes on the disabled list, which they really didn't want to have to do. Reserve Nick Evans has been recalled to take Reyes' place on the roster.

What this means is that Reyes will miss at least Thursday's game against the Dodgers, the weekend series against the Giants, Tuesday's All-Star Game, and the post-break series against the Phillies. It's this last one that's the most significant. Reyes will be eligible to return in time for a makeup game against the Marlins, but based on that one doctor's report, he'll probably need more time than the minimum 15 days to recover.

The Mets have gone 4-0 without Reyes, in large part because they've only allowed seven runs. The shortstop owns a .398 OBP and a .927 OPS.
