Charlie Blackmon Injury: Rockies Outfielder Fractures Foot

Stay connected for news and updates

Thursday afternoon, the Colorado Rockies lost to the Atlanta Braves 6-3. But they didn't only lose a game - they also lost a player. In the top of the third inning, outfielder Charlie Blackmon injured himself sliding into third base, and the official Rockies Twitter account reveals the severity:

Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon left today's game with a fractured left foot.

There's no timetable yet since the injury basically just happened, but one imagines that Blackmon will be out of action for several weeks, and it could be more than that if he needs surgery. The only person capable of returning from a fracture in a short amount of time is Albert Pujols, and it's an open question as to whether he's really a person at all.

Blackmon leaves behind a .255 average and five stolen bases. The prospect had been seeing a lot of action in left field, and his injury may open the door for Ryan Spilborghs and/or Cole Garner to play more often. His injury also comes at a bad time for a team on the fringe of contention that just saw Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez get hurt. Neither Tulo nor Gonzalez are hurt as badly as Blackmon is, but these things have a way of piling up.
