San Diego Padres Have Combined No-Hitter Through Eight Innings Against Dodgers

Stay connected for news and updates

That combined no-hitter the Padres are working on against the Dodgers remains intact, after Mike Adams got out of a jam in the eighth.

Jamey Carroll led off by drawing a walk. Pinch-hitter Trent Oeltjen followed by dropping down a sacrifice bunt up the third base line, but Chase Headley committed a throwing error, allowing Oeltjen to reach. That meant the Dodgers had two on and none out, still hitless.

Up next, Tony Gwynn Jr. attempted to bunt the two runners over, but he popped out to the catcher. Rafael Furcal then flew out to left, and Andre Ethier ended the inning by grounding a full count slider to second base.

Adams threw 18 pitches in the inning - ten of them for strikes - but survived, and the game now advances to the ninth. The ninth inning of a scoreless game, mind you, because the Padres still only have one hit of their own, which was a Cameron Maybin groundball single in the fifth. There's no telling which way this is going to go.
