Alex Rodriguez Injury: Yankees Star Has Meniscus Tear

Stay connected for news and updates

On Friday, we learned that New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez would not play in Tuesday's All-Star Game; the Yankees star did play Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Rays, going 0-for-4. He was going to be held out of Friday night's game, before it was postponed by rain. Kevin Youkilis of the Red Sox will replace him on the All-Star team.

Today, via tweet from Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times, we learn that A-Rod is injured:

Early news from #Rays-Yanks, A-Rod has meniscus tear in right knee, may need surgery, would miss a month

That's rough news for the Yankees; Rodriguez has 13 home runs and 52 RBI and is hitting .295/.366/.485 this season. There's no word yet on when this surgery might happen or when A-Rod would go on the disabled list. According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Eduardo Nunez, who played in place of Derek Jeter during the shortstop's recent stay on the DL, would play third base in A-Rod's place.
