Giants outfielder Carlos Beltran hasn't played since last Sunday, due to a sprained wrist. Initially considered day-to-day, Beltran has struggled to recover and has had his timetable pushed back. In a related or unrelated matter, here's Henry Schulman:
First baseman/outfielder Brandon Belt is flying from Fresno to Miami today and probably will be activated for tonight's game, The Chronicle has learned.
So Belt has joined the Giants. He hasn't yet been activated by the Giants, and could be present just in case, but the likelihood here is that Belt gets activated and Beltran gets placed on the disabled list. There are a few ways this could go, but that's the one with the best odds.
We should hear for certain before long. Beltran has had a rough go of it since being traded, batting 11-for-45 before hurting his wrist. Belt hasn't been impressive in his limited major league playing time, but he owns a .975 OPS with triple-A Fresno, and with the Giants playing the way they are, Belt could actually stand to get significant action this time, Bruce Bochy permitting.
