What a relief! Tuesday night, Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez sustained what looked to be a pretty nasty shoulder injury when he dove after a shallow fly ball to left field. Ramirez came away in absolute agony, and the immediate suspicion was that the shoulder might have been dislocated or separated. But a press booth announcement has eased concern. Joe Capozzi:
Hanley Ramirez has a left shoulder sprain, day to day
All things considered, that's not bad at all. Ramirez will still miss some action, and the Marlins won't rush him back, given that they're basically out of the race and Ramirez has a history of shoulder problems, but it doesn't look like he'll need to go on the disabled list. That's a small miracle, what with how Ramirez reacted to the injury when it happened.
I'm just spitballing here, but from the sounds of things, Ramirez should resume his pursuit of the Mr. Marlin title by the upcoming weekend. Coming at you, Jeff Conine.
