Tuesday brought some good news for the San Francisco Giants, as the team activated Carlos Beltran from the disabled list. However, a roster spot was needed for the outfielder, so as Beltran came, Jonathan Sanchez went:
#sfgiants announce Jonathan Sanchez to DL with left ankle sprain retro to 8/17. Beltran activated off DL.
Sanchez had injured his ankle a week earlier while fielding, and the Giants were reluctant to put him on the DL at first. He was scratched from a start over the weekend, though, and probably wouldn't have been able to start soon anyway, hence this stint. He'll be eligible to return to his 4.26 ERA at the beginning of September.
Dan Runzler started in Sanchez's place on Sunday, and is the best bet to start in Sanchez's place again the next time around. The 26-year-old lefty lasted all of 1-2/3 innings, and that was against the Astros. They aren't all like the Astros.
