There's One Problem With This Story

From Andrew Baggarly:

[Andres] Torres still talks about the life-changing day in 2002, when he was a slap-and-dash hitter with the Detroit Tigers taking batting practice at Kansas City. [Carlos] Beltran…took aside Torres and soon discovered he knew almost none of the fundamentals of hitting.

Torres between AA/AAA/Majors:

↵

2001: .294 BA, .393 SLG
↵2002: .258 BA, .348 SLG
↵2003: .241 BA, .328 SLG

Torres might have learned a lot from Beltran that day, but he didn’t turn into an actual respectable hitter for a long, long time.
