Mets general manager Sandy Alderson warned that it was "very likely" shortstop Jose Reyes would have to miss another 2-3 weeks with a hamstring strain, and now, from Adam Rubin, we have confirmation that Reyes will be sidelined for a short while:
Jose Reyes officially on DL with Daniel Murphy. Mike Baxter and Ruben Tejada promoted.
Reyes' agent, Peter Greenberg, says that Reyes should only be out for the minimum, which is nice, but this is nevertheless a frustrating turn of events considering Reyes was just on the disabled list with an identical injury. It's also worth considering that Reyes has probably lost some millions of dollars off his upcoming free agent contract due to his DL stints. Maybe that makes him more affordable for New York, who knows, but the DL stints make him a risky investment. You don't like to see leg injuries happening to a guy who depends so much on his legs.
Mike Baxter's a 26-year-old 1B/corner OF recently claimed off waivers from the Padres. He'll serve as bench depth for the time being, and might get a little time at first base with Ike Davis and Daniel Murphy out for the season. Ruben Tejada will fill in for Reyes at short.

When Mets shortstop Jose Reyes was removed from a game with a hamstring injury, there was some sense of relief when it was revealed to be but a minor strain. However, Reyes did just miss a few weeks with a minor hamstring strain, so who's to say that couldn't happen again? From Andy Martino:
Alderson just said on WFAN "very likely" Reyes could be out 2-3 weeks again.
No guarantee, and Reyes hasn't yet been placed on the disabled list, but it's something to watch for. And it'd be a real bummer for Mets fans if Reyes does have to go on the DL, since he's a free agent after the season and the Mets have only 51 games left. In case this is the final year that Reyes spends in the uniform, it stands to reason the fan base wants to be able to watch the shortstop as often as possible.
Ruben Tejada will once again fill in for Reyes for however long he's out. Fun fact: the difference between Ruben Tejada's slugging percentage and Jose Reyes' slugging percentage is 233 points. Guess whose is higher!

Sunday afternoon, New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes was removed from a game in the second inning with what was said to be a left hamstring injury. Given that Reyes missed three weeks of action in July with an injury to the same muscle, Mets fans were put on high alert.
Fortunately, there's some good news, or at least some not-terrible news. From Adam Rubin:
Jose Reyes' injury does not appear to be more serious than Sandy Alderson's original postgame announcement of a mild left hamstring pull, according to a source familiar with the subsequent examination.
After being removed, Reyes was sent to a nearby facility for an MRI. The MRI showed a mild strain, consistent with the Mets' initial belief. Though Reyes was placed on the disabled list before with a similar injury, the hope for the time being is that this is a day-to-day issue. Reyes won't play on Monday, but it's possible he could return by the end of the week.
Reyes is the proud owner of a .336 batting average and 16 triples. He was replaced on Sunday by Willie Harris, who is much much worse.
