Thursday evening, a wild Clay Hensley drilled Cardinals third baseman David Freese in the helmet with an errant fastball. Freese went to the ground and remained there for a short time before walking off the field, and soon thereafter he was diagnosed with a mild concussion and a contusion.

However, lest one believe that Freese was destined for the seven-day concussion disabled list, Freese claimed to feel much better after the game was over, and worked out without incident over the weekend. He lifted, he rode a stationary bike, he played catch, he ran, and he hit, and Major League Baseball says he's good to return:

Once Cardinals head athletic trainer Greg Hauck received the go-ahead from Major League Baseball sometime during Sunday's game with Florida, third baseman David Freese was cleared to return to action. That action probably will be Tuesday night at home against Milwaukee.

The Cardinals are off Monday, but their series against the Brewers is obviously a huge one, so they'll be thrilled to have Freese back in the lineup. Freese owns a .320 average and an .837 OPS, while reserve Daniel Descalso has been considerably worse.
