On August 27, Cleveland Indians outfielder Shin-Soo Choo left a game with soreness on his left side, and on Wednesday, they moved Choo to the disabled list. From the Indians:
Corey Kluber/Nick Hagadone recalled from Columbus to provide bullpen depth today after last night. Choo DL'd w/oblique strain
The strain isn't supposed to keep him out for several weeks, as some oblique strains will do. It's a little unusual for a team to use the disabled list on September 1st because they don't need the roster spot, but the Indians are generous with the explanations!
Hagadone was in the minors less than 10 days so a DL move was required to get him here. Choo eligible on Sept 12.Nothing changed w/prognosis
The Indians are 5.5 games back in the AL Central, and they've had a horrific time with injuries this season. The entire Opening Day outfield is on the DL right now, for example. They're probably staying with Grady Sizemore, who has a little condo there.
