In early April, then-Tampa Bay Rays DH Manny Ramirez announced his retirement from Major League Baseball after being notified that he'd failed his second drug test. If you thought Ramirez could stay out of the spotlight forever, though, turns out you were mistaken.
Monday evening, TMZ reported that Ramirez had been arrested, and Jon Morosi has come up with confirmation:
Manny Ramirez is in custody at the Broward County jail, police source confirms to FOXSports.com. He is currently being booked.
TMZ reports that Ramirez is in custody following a domestic altercation with his wife at their Weston, FL home. I don't know enough to say whether TMZ is a reliable source, but other details are light at the moment so make of that what you will. This story is rather obviously still developing.
Ramirez retired with 555 home runs and 2,574 hits. Were he to attempt a comeback, before playing a game in the majors he would first have to serve a 100-game suspension, due to his failed drug test.
