You remember the time Texas Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz went on the disabled list with a hamstring injury? No, not that time. The other time. No, the other time. No, the other time. Okay, forget it. The most recent time. You remember the most recent time Nelson Cruz went on the disabled list with a hamstring injury? Well, good news! For now, he's back!
OF Nelson Cruz and RHP Darren O’Day have been activated from the DL. Cruz was placed on the DL on August 29th with a hamstring injury, and O’Day went on the DL August 25th with shoulder inflammation.
Cruz isn't starting for the Rangers on Tuesday, but one figures he'll get himself back in the lineup soon. He'll be quite welcome with a team that's still trying to hold off the Angels in the AL West.
It is worth noting that, at least through this Cruz absence, the Rangers didn't really miss him. And why? Because, since taking over for Cruz in right field at the end of August, David Murphy has hit .380 with a .985 OPS. That's well above what any reasonable person would expect Murphy to do, but crazy things can happen in small samples, and now in retrospect the Rangers might've been better off without Cruz than with him. Baseball!
