Moneyball Filberts
What's that? You're not all Moneyballed out yet? Really? Cool. Here are some links -- sorry, no reviews, though; you'll have to wait until Monday for those -- that come with the Rob Neyer Stamp of Good Writing Approval:
- ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick looks at the "Moneyball" draft class from a humanistic perspective, with a special focus on Jeremy Brown (which is nice, but it does remind me that nobody ever talks about John Baker, another catcher from that class).
- Don't mind the headline - Daniel Brown's piece in the San Jose Mercury News is a measured look at Athletics history over the last decade.
- Speaking of measured, SI.com's Cliff Corcoran's got a nice look at how important Moneyball was to the success of the 2002 A's.
- In The New York Times Magazine, Adam Sternbergh catches up with Billy Beane.
- NPR's Mike Pesca talks about "Moneyball" with Jonah Keri, Keith Law and some other guy you might have heard of.
- After a career of great columns, Jason Whitlock has written the greatest column ever.
- In The Wall Street Journal, Matthew Futterman explores the impact of Moneyball, within sports and without (but w/r/t Bobby Brown and Joe DiMaggio, duty compels me to mention that today we most certainly can count hustle doubles in the eighth inning and outstanding catches and throws from center field).
- At Grantland, Houston Rockets execs Daryl Morey and Sam Hinkie write about why they're dreading Moneyball: The Movie. (I think they'll be fine. I think we're all going to be fine.)
- Bloomberg Businesweek's Ira Boudway attended the Moneyball premiere with Bill James and apparently sat next to him, recording every twitch. Dang, why didn't I think of that?
