It wasn't all that long ago that the Boston Red Sox seemed absolutely destined for the playoffs this year as they had a nine-game lead in the Wild Card. But after a rocky month in which they've gone 6-19 they find themselves tied with the Tampa Bay Rays for the Wild Card spot with just two games left to play. Their postseason hopes are in the somewhat questionable hands of Erik Bedard when they face the Orioles on Tuesday night. Bedard has made just two starts in September in his career.

Bedard's last start does not exactly inspire much confidence. The left-hander went 2⅔ innings, allowing seven baserunners.

He'll go up against rookie Zach Britton, who hasn't been all that great recently himself. Over his last ten starts, Britton has a 6.60 ERA and he's given up four or more runs in three of his past four outings.

Pitchers
Red Sox: Erik Bedard (5-9, 3.50 ERA)
Orioles: Zach Britton (11-10, 4.44 ERA)

Game time: Tuesday, 7:05 p.m. ET

TV/Radio
Red Sox: NESN/WEEI, 93.7 FM, 850 AM, WWZN 1510 AM
