With Terry Francona's time as manager of the Boston Red Sox reportedly set to come to an end on Friday, the attention turns to making the split as clean as possible. Francona's contract is technically up, but the Red Sox have 10 days to decide whether to exercise an option year.
So which party is pushing for a split? According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Francona is the one who wants out.
Francona has had enough of his eroding Boston experience, a major-league source said, and will ask the club not to exercise the option on his contract.
"He has had his fill of the whole thing,’’ the source told the Sun-Times.
Whatever the case may be, Francona is expected to meet with the Red Sox on Friday morning, at which point a resolution of the situation is expected. From all indications, Francona's tenure as manager will come to an end.
