The Texas Rangers agreed to extend the contract of their manager, Ron Washington.
Ron Washington is the kind of manager who can drive Rangers fans nuts. Ron Washington is the kind of manager who will hit Mike Napoli eighth on some bizarre hunch or imperceptible strategy. Ron Washington is the manager of the back-to-back American League Champions, so he has to be doing something right. All of that can be true. He's a complicated fellow to evaluate.
What he is without question, though, is the manager of the Texas Rangers for another two years. From Danny Knobler:
Rangers announce two-year extension for mgr Ron Washington
The former infielder and A's coach joined the Rangers in 2007, and helped guide them from a 75-87 record to the pennant-winning franchise with a bright future. He'll still hit Napoli eighth when you turn your back, and he's not adverse to laying down a bunt with a runner on first and no outs, but the outlook is still pretty rosy in Arlington. Washington will be along for the ride.
