Joy R. Absalon-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire
The Yankees shortstop is popular. Lots of people are buying his jersey. These facts should not surprise you.
This should not surprise you, but it's news because MLB sent it out as a tweet from its official PR twitter feed:
Most popular jerseys since All-Star break: Jeter, Hamilton, Ichiro, Harper, Trout, McCutchen, Darvish, Chipper, Verlander, Cano.
— MLB Public Relations (@MLB_PR) October 1, 2012
Derek Jeter has led all major-league players in jersey sales for the third year in a row, not just since the All-Star break, according to that linked article by Darren Rovell. Again, this is no big surprise: popular player on good team playing in the largest city in the country.
The Angels might have thought they'd make up some of the $254 million they spent on Albert Pujols in sales of his jersey, but as you'll note from the above list, Pujols doesn't even rank in the top 10. There were still many of his Cardinals jerseys evident on that team's fans when they made a recent visit to Wrigley Field.
