New York Yankees at Detroit Tigers, ALCS Game 4
When: Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 8:00 p.m. ET, on TBS
Starting Pitchers: CC Sabathia vs. Max Scherzer
With their eyes set on a series sweep, the Tigers will send Max Scherzer to the mound for Game 4. The Yankees will counter with their ace, CC Sabathia, in hopes of turning the tide.
Scherzer started Game 4 of the Tigers' ALDS match up with the Oakland Athletics and pitched impressively, if only briefly. He struck out eight A's while allowing only three hits, but he was only able to make it through 5⅓ innings. Sabathia nearly single-handedly dispatched the Baltimore Orioles last week, pitching 17⅔ innings, striking out 16 and allowing only three runs between Games 1 and 5.
Sabathia is certainly the man the Yankees want on the mound if they are to avoid the sweep, but most importantly, they need to get the offense working. In the three ALCS games, all Tigers pitchers not named Jose Valverde have held the Yankees to just one run. Mark Teixeira, Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson, Nick Swisher and Alex Rodriguez have combined for seven hits in three ALCS games.
