Also, more in line with what we do here on this page, it was the name of Detroit's entry in the National League in 1887. They, like the latter day Tigers, made it to the World Series that year. They downed the St. Louis Browns of the American Association 10 games to 5 and were immortalized via these very cool cutouts.
